Hailed as Aa potential figure of huge significance on the international concert stage by the Star-Telegram and a revelation by La Press Montreal, Ang Li made her first public appearance at Beijing Concert Hall at age six. At age thirteen, she made her orchestral debut with the Little Orchestra Society of New York in Avery Fisher Hall. In 2007, Ms. Li was invited by the China National Center for the Performing Arts to replaced pianist Yundi Li in the performance of the Ravel Piano Concerto in G major with The China National Symphony Orchestra. She was immediately re-engaged to perform at that venue with the Beijing Symphony in 2008. She has also performed with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Staten Island Symphony, The Lanaudiere Music Festival Orchestra, the American Academy of Conducting Orchestra, the Manhattan School of Music Orchestra, and the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong.
The 24-year old pianist performs regularly throughout North America and Europe. Ms. Li has appeared at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C., Alice Tully Hall, Steinway Hall, New York Sony Club, Bass Hall and the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth, The Benedict Music Tent and Harris Concert Hall in Aspen, the Staten Island Center for the Performing Arts, American Irish Historical Society, AYoung Musicians Forum@ in Schenectady, National Arts Centre in Ottawa, Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier de La Place des Arts, Jeunesses Musicales du Canada, La Chapelle Historique du Bon-Pasteur in Montreal, Amphitheatre de Lanaudiere in Quebec, Ruinekerk of Bergen in the Netherlands, the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing, among others. She has also performed three pre-concert recitals for pianist Martha Argerich at The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia. Ms. Li=s numerous live recital broadcasts by Canadian Broadcasting Company include the opening recital for the 2006 NAC/CBC Aber Diamond Debut Series in Ottawa, which took place on her 21st birthday. Ms. Li was also featured on WQXR in a simulcast performance at the Instituto Cervantes New York hosted by David Dubal. As an avid chamber musician, Ms. Li performs frequently in Philadelphia, Maine, Fort Worth, Aspen, Santa Barbara and New York.
Her piano trio from The Juilliard School gave a concert that was broadcast live over the internet to represent the school in its centennial year at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Ms. Li performed the Bartok Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion with pianist Yoheved Kaplinsky, percussionists Jonathan Haas and Thomas Stubbs at The Aspen Music Festival. Ms. Li’s recital debut in China as part of the 2007 AMeet in Beijing Arts Festival was televised nationally by CCTV. Upcoming appearances include performances at the Lanaudiere International Music Festival in Quebec and the Winnipeg Virtuosi Concert Series in Manitoba.
Ms. Li is a recipient of numerous honors and prizes. She was awarded first prize and five special prizes at the 2003 OSM Competition in Montreal. She has also won first prizes in the Manhattan School of Music Concerto Competition, The Kingsville International Piano Concerto Competition, the Isabel Scionti Piano Solo Competition, The Chiang Wen Yeh International Music Competition, the Kiwanis Concerto Competition in Toronto, the American Academy of Conducting Piano Competition at The Aspen Music Festival, and Special Award at the Wideman Piano Competition. Ms. Li was twice chosen to compete at the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition (2005, 2009). She was chosen among hundreds of pianists all over the world as one of the top 35 pianists in 2005 and top 30 in 2009. The Cliburn Foundation has issued two albums for Ms. Li’s live competition performance. As the winner of the 2007 Contemporary Record Society Competition, Ms. Li recorded a CD for the CRS featuring chamber music by Brahms and Russo, and contemporary solo piano works by Schlenck. Ms Li will record another album for CRS in 2010. Ms. Li=s solo debut album was released in June 2008 by China Record Corporation.
Ms. Li holds a Bachelor’s Degree from The Curtis Institute of Music and a Master=s Degree from The Juilliard School. She completed her studies with an Artist Diploma at Texas Christian University, where she studied with Yoheved Kaplinsky.
Ms. Li has participated in prestigious music festivals in North America and Europe, including the Music Academy of the West, The International Holland Music Sessions, The Bowdoin International Music Festival, and The Aspen Music Festival as a New Horizon Fellowship recipient. She has performed in masterclasses led by Leon Fleisher, Richard Goode, Arie Vardi, John Perry, Peter Frankl, Paul Badura-Skoda, Christopher Elton, Vladimir Feltsman, Karl-Heinz Kammerling, Jon Kimura Parker, Anton Kuerti, Mikhail Voskresensky, and José Feghali.
